For over 15 years, Jean-Paul (JP) has been working in the financial services industry and more importantly, building relationships with his clients. He appreciates that he has become part of their stories and truly values the relationships he has built over the years. JP’s mission is to bring clarity to his client’s lives by understanding their story, helping them define their financial goals and implementing strategies to achieve their desired outcome.


JP has earned his Accredited Asset Management Specialist (AAMS) and Certified Family Business Specialist (CFBS) designations from the American College. JP was inducted into the InBusiness “40 under 40” as part of the 2014 class.


When he is not in the office or on the golf course, he can be found with his girls: wife Kimberly and daughters Grace and Gloria. They love traveling, playing tennis, golfing and working out together. JP is a member of the 100 Men of Dane County charity organization and previously served on the board of directors for Gio’s Garden. Both being Wisconsin natives, he and Kimberly love calling Madison home.



Brian A. Beasley, MBA, LUTCF


Brian financial career began with MetLife in 2009 and evolved into the formation of his own financial practice, Structure Financial Group LLC.   After being in corporate management and leadership the prior 10 years, he saw the importance of personal and business planning and decided to take a step to help others achieve their financial objectives. Through his experience, Brian found that business owners often lacked collaboration among their professional advisors. While many are aware of the complexities in managing their assets, very seldom was a sound strategy in place to allow them to exit their business on a favorable basis. The succession and continuity strategies Brian helps business owners employ, help to provide clarity through his process oriented approach. Not only does this help free up time for the owner, but it streamlines the plan and provides the expertise that is crucial to the survival of the company that encompasses so many areas.


Brian completed is Masters in Business Administration from Amberton University in Dallas TX, and obtains the Life Underwriter Training Fellow Council (LUTCF) designation as well. Brian is a certified MassMutual CPE instructor, a member of NAIFA in South Carolina, and is a SCORE mentor volunteering his time to mentor small business owners. His practice is located in Columbia SC and he resides in Lexington County with his wife, Nicole, and his two daughters Caroline and Morgan. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family on the lake, church and playing golf.



Lee Bowman, MSA, CFBS


Lee’s financial career began in 2007 with Mass Mutual in South Florida but he now resides in Charlotte, NC where he runs his own financial firm, Five Point Financial, LLC. Prior to becoming a fee based financial advisor, Lee was an auditor with Ernst & Young, LLC where he worked with numerous private and publicly traded companies. Though his experiences, Lee began to learn that working with the privately held corporations was becoming a passion. “I’ve always enjoyed working with small business owners because of the culture that they build and the family type atmosphere that their businesses contain,” says Lee. Since moving to Charlotte in 2011, Lee has continued to focus on helping closely held business owners gain clarity of their financial world through the Business Owner Road Map.


Lee earned his undergraduate degree in Accounting, along with his Master’s in Accounting from East Carolina University. In addition to his college degrees, Lee holds the Certified Family Business Specialist (CFBS) designation through the American College. Lee lives in Charlotte,
NC with his wife Jessica and their two kids, Jace and Olivia. In his spare time, Lee enjoys spending time with his family, his friends, and
playing golf.



Mark Dorman, CLU, ChFC, CFBS, Founder, President

As the president of Dorman Legacy Advisors, LLC and Founder of the Midwest Family Business Center, Mark is an industry leader who is recognized for helping his clients achieve their goals for the single most critically important financial event of their lives—the eventual transfer of their business.  He has more than 28 years of experience working with business owners, corporate executives, and retirees.


Mark also founded Dorman Farrell, LLC in 1999.  The financial services and employee benefits company quickly grew into one of the most respected firms in the industry in the state of Ohio. The firm received numerous awards, including Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead 100 Ranking for business growth in 2009 and 2010, as well as receiving Medical Mutual’s Pillar Award for community service.

Tim is a financial services professional with Windsor Financial Group, a financial, estate and business planning company providing planning, investment and insurance solutions to small businesses, fiduciaries and individuals.


Presently, he is the retirement plan specialist at Windsor Financial Group. He is also a Certified Family Business Specialist (CFBS) and has been serving clients as a financial advisor since 1986. Scott Eckart, MBA, CFBS, Founding Member


“Everyone has a story,”says Scott Eckart, “and my work begins with discovering it.” He emphasizes the value of knowing clients well in order to provide them with sound financial advice. “I firmly believe that a story leads to clarity, and clarity leads to accomplishment,” adds Scott as he explains his approach.

“I love seeing people make progress toward their goals,” says Scott. Scott draws on years of experience as a business consultant to help people better articulate their goals and take the necessary steps to accomplish them. His practice focuses on the needs of closely held business owners and pre-retirees, helping those clients to proactively take control of their personal, legacy, tax and gift resources.


In addition, Scott volunteers his knowledge of personal finance to provide financial literacy education to children and young adults. Having benefited from strong mentors and role models in his formative years, Scott works to pay their gift forward by acting as an advisor and instructor to others.


Scott holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia and an MBA from the University of Redlands in Southern California. Outside of work he is an avid reader and outdoor enthusiast. On many weekends Scott can be found tending to his garden. He and his wife, Elsa, reside in Zionsville, Indiana and enjoy spending time with their four children.



Kevin C. Gutwein, CFBS


“Ever since I was young I was interested in the growth of money,” says Kevin Gutwein about his early fascination with all things financial. Then, as a twelve-year-old, he started working in his grandfather’s business. As his paychecks accumulated, Kevin asked his mother what he could do to make his money grow faster. “And that’s how I ended up owning a Certificate of Deposit when I was in the sixth grade,” he laughs. “I was saving for a car when I was just twelve years old!”


As he was about to graduate from Purdue University with a degree in business, it was his father who dispensed sage advice. “Why don’t you meet with my financial advisor and ask him about his career?” he counseled. Kevin did, and knew instantly that this was the path he would follow. “I knew I wanted to help people, I am goal-oriented and the only thing I enjoy more than reaching my own goals is helping others reach theirs,” he says.


Well over a decade later, Kevin has built a successful financial planning practice of his own. Many of Kevin’s clients are mid-career professionals and business owners who are used to managing their own finances. However, as their lives become more complex with family obligations, growing businesses and evolving careers - they seek someone to help guide them to financial independence. Regardless of where clients find themselves in life, Kevin can assist. Through his comprehensive approach he identifies specific goals, and then develops a plan to reach them.


Kevin lives in Zionsville, Indiana with his wife Laura, and their four children. Outside of work, Kevin is equally goal-oriented. He maintains a dedicated workout regimen and participates in seasonal events such as trail biking and triathlons. To unwind, he particularly enjoys coaching his son’s basketball team and mentoring the youth at his church.



Aaron Harrison, JD, CExP


Aaron Harrison brings more than 10 years of experience advising small businesses and their owners on wealth and succession planning issues, including the creation and implementation of effective business succession and estate plans.


After spending eight years practicing law in Medina, Ohio, advising sophisticated clients on matters including corporate counseling and capital structure, succession planning and estates and trusts, Aaron transitioned to the financial services industry working directly with the higher net worth clients of a super-regional bank. He joined Dorman Legacy Advisors in April 2015.


In addition to his experience counseling clients regarding wealth and succession matters, Aaron brings a track record of providing superior customer service. He prides himself on anticipating client needs and exceeding expectations.


Aaron is a past president of the Medina County Bar Association, where he served as a member of the executive committee for five years and is also past president of the Medina County Estate Planning Council. He remains a member of both organizations, as well as a member of the Medina County Law Library and the Ohio State Bar Association.


Together with his family, Aaron is an active supporter of various non-profit organizations including Medina County 4-H and other local youth enrichment programs and a member of the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation.


Aaron was raised on a farm in northwest Ohio. He received his B.A from Ohio Northern University and his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University. He currently resides in Medina with his wife Kelly, and their two children, Lincoln and Lucille.



Matt Haske - Advisor


Matt Haske is an advisor with Financial Designs who was born and raised in a family of entrepreneurs. His grandfather, father, and uncle ran a successful mattress manufacturing and retail furniture company for 45 years in southern California. Spending evenings, weekends, and summers working side by side with his family set the foundational components of work ethic and service to others. Matt has 7+ years of experience working in the financial services and insurance industry. Prior to that, he successfully operated both small and medium sized family businesses while also working in the corporate world for a time.


Matt holds his 6 and 63 Securities Licenses, as well as his Virginia Life, Health, and Annuities Licenses.

In early 2000, when Brock Jolly launched his financial planning career, he – like so many business owners – had a grand vision.

He sought to develop a collaborative approach to wealth management that would wholly address a client’s financial picture. He was resourceful, creative and independent, and knew he would eventually figure out how to make his dream a reality.


Brock began presenting adult education seminars on college funding strategies. Over the course of the past 15 years, he has perfected the art of developing educational seminars to make complex financial topics accessible to wide audiences. Brock’s college funding seminar teaches parents how to help pay for college for their kids without sacrificing their own retirement savings.


Brock’s vision of the business would come to fruition in 2014, when he partnered with Gerald Radican and Colin Kimpel, two industry veterans, to form Veritas Financial. “We merged three varied practices to help a broader set of clients with a deeper set of solutions,” Brock explains. He excitedly adds, “Veritas Financial allows us to build something that is much bigger than the sum of our three practices, and allows our clients to truly benefit from the synergies of partnership.”


Brock graduated from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2000. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional (CFP®), and holds many other industry designations, including Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) and Certified Family Business Specialist (CFBS®).


Brock has been recognized as a top performer within the industry. In 2011, he was named the national NAIFA Young Advisor Team Leader of the Year. From 2012 to 2014, he served as the chairman of NAIFA’s Investment Committee, where he worked closely with NAIFA leadership to manage the association’s reserve account. In 2014, he was elected by his peers to serve as a National Trustee for NAIFA—the youngest trustee ever elected. In 2015, Brock was awarded the Legacy Award by the Greater Washington Foundation of Insurance and Financial Advisors in recognition for his longstanding service to the Foundation, the financial services industry, the highest standards of professional conduct and unselfish community service.


In his spare time, Brock enjoys traveling, distance running and playing ice hockey. He lives in Arlington, Virginia with his wife, Lauren, their young son, Bryson and a rescued pit bull, Chico.



Colin Kimpel


While growing up in and around the financial services industry, Colin Kimpel was determined to forge his own path and not follow into his father’s footsteps.


The proximity to his father’s work, however, left an indelible impression as to the positive impact that financial planning can have on people’s lives.


He then met a financial advisor, approximately his own age, who shared with him his perspective on the business. “It was different, to hear it from a peer versus from my parent,” Colin recalls of that life changing conversation. “I realized that I had the opportunity to do interesting work, and play a significant role in guiding people toward a better financial future.” It took time and perseverance to build a financial services practice, but Colin was committed to his goal. Several years in, he took stock of what he had learned: “I found I really enjoy working with business owners, I love the big picture approach of financial planning, and I absolutely love educating people,” he sums up.


With this level of self-awareness and insight, Colin has been able to steer the growth of his practice in a way that is both personally fulfilling and which yields optimum impact on his clients’ lives. Colin has also played an important role in shaping the way Veritas Financial clients experience the financial planning process. “We work with business owners, executives and their families,” he explains. “The common denominator is that our clients know they need expert help, and they seek to delegate some of the heavy lifting to us, while still retaining oversight of their financial picture,” he adds.


Colin is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is a Certified Financial Planning Professional (CFP®) and a Certified Family Business Specialist (CFBS). He is actively is involved in Leadership Greater Washington and in EODC, the Entrepreneurship Organization for business owners in the DC area, where he is also a board member. In addition, Colin volunteers on two non-profit boards concerned with children’s wellbeing and education: For Love of Children (FLOC) which provides after-school programs to underprivileged children and Alternative Paths Training School, a school for developmentally disabled children.


Outside of work, Colin is an avid automobile racer, triathlete and a big fan of live music and sporting events. He resides in Bethesda, MD, with his wife, Suzanne and their three young children.



Andrew Klein, CFBS


For Andrew, one of the most rewarding aspects of working with a client is helping them develop a plan and then watching as they commit to executing that plan. “My personal philosophy related to this industry can be summed up in a quote from Lewis Carroll: ‘If you don’t know where you are going, any path will get you there,’” says Andrew. As a result, Andrew’s business is built on the strong foundation of establishing long-term relationships with clients while helping them reach their financial goals and objectives.


Andrew found himself in the financial services industry when he was looking for an opportunity to own and run a small business, just like many of his clients. “This is the perfect place for me to be an entrepreneur while also serving others,” says Andrew.


After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2002, Andrew moved to Madison, Wisconsin where he met his wife, Pamela. In their free time, they enjoy playing golf, exercising, fishing, attending sports events and spending time at their lake house.



David Kucharski, ChFC, CFBS, Director, Individual Planning


David Kucharski received a degree in finance from John Carroll University in 1998. David has 20 years experience working with business owners and sophisticated higher net worth clients on their planning needs and his service model is based on the personal connection he is able to make with clients of various background. David is a founding member of Legacy Physician Advisors through which he offers assistance to individuals and business owners in the medical industry.


David is a Certified Family Business Specialist and he is a past Vice President of the Society for Financial Service Professionals in Cleveland.  He currently sits on the Professional Advisory Council of the Akron Community Foundation and serves on the board of the Medina County Estate Planning Council, as well as a member of the Magis Alumni Group from John Carroll. He resides in Broadview Heights, Ohio with his wife and their three children.




Mark Miner, CRPS


Mark is an advisor with Financial Designs and is intricately involved in the areas of qualified plan business, individual wealth management, and financial planning.  Mark graduated from Houghton College in 2007 with a B.S. in Business Administration and began his financial services career with The Vanguard Group in Malvern, PA the same year.  Prior to joining Financial Designs, he has held various roles with financial firms in Philadelphia, PA and Lynchburg, VA including benefits manager, retirement plan specialist, portfolio manager, and advisor.


Mark holds his 6, 63, 65, and 7 securities licenses, as well as his Virginia life, health, and annuities licenses.  He also has his Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist (CRPS®) designation from the College for Financial Planning.


His desire to help clients achieve successful outcomes and provide for themselves and their families in a complicated and ever evolving financial landscape is what motivates Mark.


Mark lives in Rustburg, Virginia with his wife Laura and their three children.  He enjoys tennis, hikes with the family, and playing drums in his spare time.



Chris Owen


Chris is an advisor with Financial Designs and joined the firm in 2018.  He has a combined 13 years of experience working in the financial services and insurance industry.  Chris believes in providing value and exceptional service to his clients.  In addition, he takes pride in his role as a financial advisor because he understands the importance and impact this profession can have for his clients and generations to come.


Chris currently holds his FINRA Series 6, 7, 63 and 66 securities licenses, as well as his Virginia life, health and annuities licenses, and his Property and Casualty license.


Chris was born and raised in Forest where he currently lives with his wife, Jessi, and their three children.  Chris strongly believes in serving his community and giving back due to the positive impact the community has had in his life.  Therefore, you will find Chris in his spare time serving with non-profit organizations, his church and coaching within youth programs.  Away from the business Chris enjoys spending quality time with his family and has several hobbies including mountain biking, exercising, hiking, golf, motorcycles and automobiles.


Chris graduated from Wake Forest University in 2005 with a communications degree. He received a full scholarship to play football at the University.




Gerald Radican, CLU, ChFC, CLTC, CFBS


Gerald provides financial concierge service to business owners and key executives.


Back in college, if you had asked Gerald Radican if he could imagine a career in the insurance industry, the instant response would have been a resounding “no!” Yet in the summer of his junior year, Gerald was offered an internship to work with his brother-in-law, who was then building a financial services practice in the DC area. Little did Gerald know at the time that his brother-in-law had a hunch he would be good at this business – and that there really was no internship program. “He thought if I only got a taste of it, I might like it and stay,” laughs Gerald.


That hunch proved to be right on the mark: Gerald was a natural fit, and was licensed as a broker even before he graduated from college. “It was truly a great decision to get into this business and to this day, I am thankful for the guidance I received,” he says.


Now in its third decade of operation, Gerald’s insurance practice continues to thrive. He attributes the strength of his practice to a commitment to building long term relationships with his clients. “If I can provide suitable advice and excellent service that gets people closer to their financial goals, I’m doing my job,” he says.


Gerald assists clients with diverse insurance needs, ranging from personal life insurance to executive benefits. Rick Scruggs, CLU, CHFC, C(k)P


Rick Scruggs's introduction to the financial world was when his father died a few months after Rick had enrolled at The College of William & Mary. His father’s death came only six days prior to the passage of The Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), which would have provided a lifelong pension to his mother. Given the timing, however, she was not eligible to receive any benefits.


Social Security benefits and a life insurance policy ensured that Rick didn't have to drop out of college, but his mother was forced to continue working in order to support her family.  The experience had a profound impact on Rick. It also impressed upon him the importance of thinking about the future and protecting the people you love.


Upon graduation, Rick went on to become a successful business professional.  He read voraciously and immersed himself in just about every aspect of business planning from retirement plans to succession strategies, multiple facets of insurance (life, disability income, and long-term care), investments, ESOPs, and more.  He even invested as an owner in a brokerage house with a seat on the New York Stock Exchange.


The more Rick learned, the more he realized that his passion was for "candidly speaking with people about love, health, finances, and business ownership." He founded Financial Designs in 1983.


Today, Financial Designs is a recognized regional leader in business continuity and success(ion) planning.  The talented team of advisors and support staff work with business owners and their employees.


Rick is designated a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) by The American College and a Certified 401(k) Professional through The Retirement Advisor University in collaboration with the UCLA Anderson School of Management Executive Education.  He is a member of the Advanced Association of Life Underwriters, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, the Lynchburg Estate Planning Council, the National Center for Employee Ownership, and the ESOP Association, The Strategic Coach, 401(k) Coach, and David Cohn and Associates 360. He is a qualifying and life member of the Million Dollar Round Table.

David R. Stephens (CFS, CFBS)


David R. Stephens is the President of Stephens Financial Partners LLC, a firm that provides financial solutions to individuals and businesses. Stephens Financial Partners LLC is affiliated with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual). Prior to joining MassMutual, Dave was a Senior Partner with another financial services company headquartered in Virginia Beach.


Dave’s professional specialties include Retirement Planning, Investment Products, College Education Planning, Business Evaluation and Continuation Planning and Estate Planning Strategies, to name a few. He attended the University of Maryland and is an active member of the Central Business District Association (CBDA) and the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce.


Dave is the President of the Board of Directors of the Alzheimer’s Association of South Eastern Virginia. He is our local spokesperson and represents our local chapter in matters pertaining to state and federal legislation.   He is a board member of the Virginia Beach SPCA and is the Chairperson of the Board Development committee. He supports other local charities such as CHKD, “I Need a Lighthouse” foundation, and Toby’s Dream Foundation among others. Dave resides in Virginia Beach with his wife, Debbie, and is the proud father of a 25 year-old daughter.



Diane Thomas, Member


Diane Thomas has been serving closely held businesses in Arizona with revenue ranging from $2 million to $25 million by providing business sales, merger, acquisition and succession planning services. Her holistic approach to achieve stakeholder objectives includes: Value Enhancement Strategies; Business and Financial Risk Management Solutions; Key Employee Retention Plans; and Graceful Business Succession Strategies.


Diane received her Bachelor of Science Degrees in Finance and Quantitative Analysis from CSULB. In addition to working with closely held businesses, Diane’s career experience includes real estate investment and management, business turn around management, acquisition analysis, market analysis and due diligence. Her corporate experience includes trading foreign currency for the Bergen Bank of Norway and working for the IBM Corporation.


Diane shares her life with her husband, John, and their five children in Scottsdale, Arizona. Diane loves to cook, ride her dirt bike and practice yoga. She volunteers for Junior Achievement and as a Mentor for the Arizona Small Business Association. She is a member of WATT (Women at the Top).



Douglas W. Van Order, Managing Partner


After 23 years as an advisor and leader in the financial services industry, Doug prides himself on the positive impact that he has left on his clients and colleagues. Following his graduation from California State University, Chico with a B.S. in Business Management, Doug found success from the start by following one simple, proven formula: build relationships first and good things will follow. By making long-lasting connections, Doug assembled a wonderful clientele and developed winning relationships with fellow advisors. Under his guidance, Doug has helped identify and encourage some of the great leaders in the financial services industry, who have played a role in making it what it has become today.

Now, as Managing Partner of Tier One Financial and Insurance Services, Doug has a dual focus.  In his financial services practice, he works with Closely Held Family Businesses to address their Business and Estate Planning needs. Additionally, Doug advises on Wealth Management and Retirement Planning, which are both increasingly relevant as our community prepares for retirement. In all of these areas, Doug does his part to ensure clients seeking information are fully satisfied.
